DEFLANDRE GIVES MEMPHIS RACING FIRST NWES WIN The Belgian dominates the ELITE 2 Round 5 at Brands Hatch

Guillaume Deflandre (#77 Memphis Racing Chevrolet SS) grabbed his second career win after dominating the ELITE 2 Round 5 of the NASCAR GP UK. It was the first ever NWES win for Swedish team Memphis Racing.

“The race was really good”, said the 19 year old Belgian. “After the restart I was able to create a gap very quickly. Felipe was two or three seconds behind me. The car and the setup were incredible. Thanks Memphis Racing for that. It’s not easy for us as we are a new team in NWES. To finish first that early in the season is really incredible. Tomorrow I hope to win the race again.”

After winning Racing Total’s first race in 2017 Deflandre gave another team it’s maiden win in the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series.

Felipe Rabello (#11 PK Carsport Chevrolet Camaro) finished second by beating Florian Venturi (#32 Go Fas Racing Ford Mustang) to the line by only 0.130 seconds at the end of an intense duel. Venturi also grabbed the win in the Rookie Cup.

“We had a really good race,” said Rabello, who finished second. “Deflandre was very fast so it was really hard to keep up the pace. I had to deal with lapped cars in the wrong places and that allowed him to open an even bigger gap. Then I had do defend against Venturi, he was really close to me. In the last turn of the race he made a good move but I got a lot of traction earlier than him so I could finish in front by a few centimeters. Tomorrow I’m going to try to win the race, as always.”

Franciacorta race winner Guillaume Dumarey (#24 PK Carsport Chevrolet Camaro) ended up fourth in front of ELITE 2 overall leader Wilfried Boucenna (#37 Knauf Racing Team Ford Mustang) and Ulysse Delsaux (#3 Tepac RDV Competition Toyota Camry). Maciej Dreszer (#56 CAAL Racing Chevrolet SS) was seventh ahead of Freddy Nordstrom (#33 Mavi Mishumotors Chevrolet SS), while Nicholas Risitano (#8 Racers Motorsport Ford Mustang) was the second fasted rookie by closing the race in ninth place in front of Paul Guiod (#73 Knauf Racing Team Ford Mustang).

Jerry de Weerdt (#78 Braxx Racing Ford Mustang) won the Legend Trophy by ending up 13th. His teammate Tom Boonen, who was 14th, grabbed his first career podium finish in the Rookie Cup. Simone Laureti (#9 Racers Motorsport Ford Mustang) and Marko Stipp (#10 Racing Total Chevrolet SS) joined de Weerdt on the Legend Trophy by finishing 18th and 19th.

Carmen Boix Gil (#1 Alex Caffi Motorsport Toyota Camry) won the Lady Cup by ending up 20th under the checkered flag.

The ELITE 2 will return to action at the legendary Brands Hatch Indy Circuit on Sunday at 5:25pm on Sunday. The race will be broadcasted live on Fanschoice.tv, the NWES YouTube channel, the NWES Facebook page, motorsport.tv and many other websites and Facebook pages around the world.
